I see Easter Peeps candies as a universally American thing that everybody looks forward to eating - they come out once a year, but every year. They are glitzy, sweet, fun to look at, and instantly recognizable. I decided to personalize them by giving them my own unspecific story, inserting my "beings" in a landscape of Peeps.
The Peeps represent all the different years that pass by and become a wasteland of memories. I find it strange how people's memories, and history for that matter, are changed by the inaccuracy of aural communication- hence my little word play on (y)ears.
While the orange prints are intended to represent daytime in the summer heat, the green prints are intended to represent nighttime. The dark Peeps on flourescent green and yellow remind me of walking amidst dark city buildings with bright lights glowing out their windows.
My bunny characters are contained inside two underground bubbles, uttering punctuation marks to one another. The orange objects are distorted pictures of empty honey bears- the "containers for memories"; they got their name from my huge collection which have accumulated from drinking tea with honey every night, reminiscing of my day, and emptying out memories.
